KST Trauma Support - Training Institute according to DeGPT and EMDR-Europe standards
The World Health Organization has recommended the use of EMDR in the treatment of traumatized children and adolescents since 2013. The Association of Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF) also recommends EMDR in its guidelines for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Since March 2016, EMDR-C&A has also been recognized by the Scientific Advisory Board for Psychotherapy (WBP) for the treatment of PTSD in children and adolescents.
Dr. Kerstin Stellermann-Strehlow attended her first EMDR seminar in Cape Town, South Africa in 2002 – initially with considerable skepticism – and has been an enthusiastic EMDR therapist ever since. Since 2017, she has been an accredited EMDR Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist trainer according to EMDR Europe criteria, and since 2023, an EMDR Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist Senior Trainer. She teaches the complete EMDR Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist curriculum as well as the EMDR Child and Adolescent Supervisor training at the KST Trauma Support Institute.
They are particularly fascinated by the diverse applications of EMDR in working with children and adolescents: working with early childhood experiences, treating patients without shared language skills or with low IQs, the possibility of structuring complex processes, intensive work with multiple sessions in one day/week, and integrating EMDR into play therapy processes. This also includes its use in groups with children, adolescents, and also caregivers.
Since 2008, I have been teaching the DeGPT curriculum "Special Psychotrauma Therapy with Children and Adolescents" for therapists in private practice and clinics, together with colleagues. Our seminars combine current scientific findings with over 20 years of national and international trauma therapy experience – from inpatient and outpatient work in Germany as well as from deployments in war zones and crisis areas, and from work with refugees or after disasters.
At the KST Trauma Support Institute, we offer the complete DeGPT curriculum.
We offer supervision in individual and group settings in German and English, both in person and online. We work as supervisors for child and adolescent psychiatrists, psychotherapists, and professionals, particularly in the areas of trauma therapy, EMDR (EMDR Europe), child protection, refugees, and interdisciplinary case consultation.
The topics of the workshops and lectures with Dr. Kerstin Stellermann-Strehlow include, among others, the complex issue of traumatization of children, adolescents and their families, the influence of adverse childhood experiences on the development of children and adolescents, interdisciplinary child protection issues, working with refugee children, stressor-based therapy, trauma-sensitive attitudes in schools, youth services, journalism, the justice system, as well as prevention and psychological first aid.
