EMDR
with children and adolescent
I began my training as an EMDR therapist for children and adolescents according to EMDR Europe criteria in 2002 in Cape Town, South Africa; in 2011 I was trained in Germany as an EMDR KJ supervisor at the KinderTraumaInstitut and since 2017 I have been an accredited EMDR KJ trainer according to EMDR Europe criteria, since 2023 EMDR KJ Senior Trainer.
I have extensive therapeutic experience in the EMDR treatment of children and adolescents in outpatient, (partial) inpatient and acute inpatient psychotherapeutic and psychiatric settings in a wide variety of contexts (outpatient clinics, clinics, crisis areas) and cultures (South Africa, Germany, USA). My focus is on complex trauma: in particular, working with children and adolescents who have survived violence; refugees; adolescents with addictions and systemic challenges characterize my spectrum, but also working with chronically ill children is part of it.
Since 2017, I have been training EMDR KJ therapists in German or English as part of in-house training courses at clinics and various training institutes.
Since 2008, I have been teaching large parts of the curriculum "Special Psychotrauma Therapy with Children and Adolescents" of the German-speaking Society for Psychotraumatology (DeGPT) for practicing child and adolescent psychotherapists and at child and adolescent psychiatric clinics. Thanks to my many years of experience in outpatient, but especially inpatient, trauma therapy, my seminars are based on the latest research and over 20 years of experience in national and international therapeutic practice.
I work as a supervisor for child and adolescent psychotherapists in outpatient and clinical settings, particularly in the areas of EMDR (EMDR Europe), child protection, refugee counseling, and psychotraumatology. I offer supervision in individual and group settings in German and English, both in person and online.
The topics of the lectures and workshops include the broad complex of traumatization of children, adolescents and their families, the influence of aversive childhood experiences on the development of children and adolescents, child protection issues, work with refugee children, stressor-based therapy, trauma and school, trauma and youth welfare, trauma and journalism, trauma and justice, as well as prevention and psychological first aid.
