On this page, we introduce the interdisciplinary instructors who design our advanced training and continuing education courses in the field of trauma therapy for children and adolescents. Together, they combine current scientific findings with many years of trauma therapy experience across various specializations, as well as a passion for teaching. This results in a diverse, practice-oriented program for professionals in private practice and clinical settings.

Diana Steen

For over 25 years, Diana Steen has worked with children and adolescents in psychosocial settings. After studying social work, she completed further training in systemic therapy, trauma-informed pedagogy, IBT (Individualized Behavior Therapy), and trauma-sensitive play and attachment therapy. Today, she is one of two managing directors of the Trauma Studio.

Her work combines forensic medical expertise with practical child protection work, prevention, and collaboration between medicine, youth welfare, the justice system, and psychosocial support systems.

A lawyer specializing in family law, she is the founder of the law firm "Separation with Children" and has been advising clients on separations involving children throughout Germany for over 10 years. She has handled international child abduction cases and represented Germany's interests for the Federal Foreign Office at the United Nations in New York City, USA, in Atlanta, USA, and at the German Embassy in Malawi, Africa. As a negotiation expert utilizing methods from Harvard Law School, her training with the North Rhine-Westphalia police, and her studies in legal psychology, her goal is to resolve conflicts and work with clients to create a peaceful and secure post-separation family.

Susan Darker-Smith is an EMDR Europe Senior Child & Adololscent Trainer and Consultant and a BABCP Accredited Psychotherapist & Supervisor. She is a founding trustee of the Global Child-EMDR Alliance and the Trauma Response Network UK, which was founded following the Manchester arena bombing. Susan is the clinical director for the Child Trauma Therapy Centre and has written chapters in books in the field of neurodiversity and EMDR, Perinatal mental health and EMDR and eating disorders and EMDR. She has presented both nationally and internationally in the fields of EMDR and Narratives, Grooming and Sexual Exploitation, Neurodiverse-Affirming EMDR.
She holds a masters level degree in Human Rights Law (amongst several qualifications in psychology and psychotherapy) and is passionate about social justice.
